Kayaking Waterproof Cases

Choosing From Many Types of Kayaks

Kayaks were originally used by people living in the far north. Made from animal skins, they were used for hunting and for transporting both passengers and goods. A traditional kayak was made to fit the individual hunter.

A Tuilik (a skin jacket) was attached to the kayak after the rest of the skins were sewn together to fashion the craft. This meant that the hunter could perform an Eskimo roll to right the kayak after tipping it upside down without getting wet. Arctic waters are far too cold for a person to survive in for very long, and staying dry was extremely important.

Sea Kayaks

This style is used when traveling on open water. They are available in styles for one or two paddlers and are designed with stability and storage capacity in mind.

Whitewater Kayaks

In order to navigate white water, a kayak must combine a low hull in front with a more stable, flared upper hull in the back. They don't have rudders, but still give the operator the same level of maneuverability as a kayak designed for use in flat water.

Racing Kayaks

As the name implies, a racing kayak is designed for speed. A skilled operator can achieve stability with this type of boat, but only after he or she has spent some time in the craft.

Recreational Kayaks

If you are interested in taking a leisurely journey through flat water then you should look for a recreational kayak. This model is different from other varieties due to the large cockpit (to make it easier to enter and exit the boat), along with a wider beam (which gives greater stability).

A recreational kayak is relatively inexpensive to purchase, which makes it a good choice for the casual paddler. Users do need to be aware of the fact that it has a limited storage capacity.

Waterproof Cases for Your Kayak

When you are taking a trip by kayak, you will want to make sure that any items you are taking with you are packed without adding extra bulk. Keeping your map, compass, and GPS device dry will be a priority, and watertight sport cases are a perfect choice to keep these necessary items secure. Use a watertight sports case for your keys and wallet as well.

If you are planning to take your camera or camcorder with you, waterproof cases can be used for them as well. The cases are fully functional, allowing the user to operate the controls through the covers.

It makes sense to take your cell phone with you when you venture out into the woods, in case an emergency situation arises. Keeping it dry and ready for anything is not a problem, since waterproof cases are available in a number of sizes and styles.

Choosing the right style of kayak is essential to getting the most from your excursion. Once you have made that decision, you can then turn your attention to selecting the right waterproof cases to keep all of your equipment safe.
